Religion and Teenagers
As I was christened at the age of 7 months, I was taken to "rainbows" (christian childrens club, similar to beavers, scouts etc) and always went to midnight mass at christmas and local church events as a child. I do not have a religious family by any means, non of them believe in God, but when I have questioned them as to why we went, it was simply because thats what they did, its what communities did in the older days and generations were expected to go with there families to show there support.
I chose to join a church group with my best friend at around 13, we went to clubs, embraced the reading and enjoyed the company and pressure free enviroment given to us. It was much safer than what we had been doing at weekends, (going to the local woods, drinking and causing mayhem) and although we never proclaimed to have "seen the light" they never turned us away and always were there for us regardless of our beleifs.
Being much older now, I really do believe it to be an old invented control system that seemed plausable before science and this is just my opinion so sorry if its a little to the point. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want.
The idea of it being real is nice, and the fact you are rewarded with good behaviour and justice will be served to people who dont live a good and meaningful lifestyle.
Various religions throughout England, christianity, catholics, jewish etc are all mocked and made fun of by teenagers, more so on blog websites like Tumblr, where people have decided atheism and satanism is cool.
Alot of people celebrate christmas, easter, and other christian celebrations and claim to be athiest and doing it for commercial purposes. Well thats incredibly boring if you ask me. Get some culture! You wouldnt get people doing this in India, or within other communities. It shows a divide and lack of respect and frankly its embaressing, no one embraces there history anymore.
And I stand by first point, I dont believe in it, but I can apreciate it without having to make fun or going against it and hating it for no reason. It gives people hope, a better community, and a nice homely enviroment. I enjoy going, just for the pure experience and I dont understand why it doesnt facinate people more.
I have looked at both sides, and as much as satanism and all the other alternative crap people study just for the sake of being different facinates me also, its not origional, it hasnt been around as long and it doesnt intrest me half as much.
Key moments in my life have been spent at church with my family, having fun and learning, listening to stories and not harming anything whilst doing it.
In my opinion, its a nice thing to keep doing, even though its old fashioned and not many people believe in God, they would like to, and the chance that it could give them a little bit of good karma keeps people going.
